Cleveland Home Insulation - performance insulation for Cleveland, OH

Let Cleveland Home Insulation upgrade your home with high-performance insulation for year round comfort

Have you ever experienced Cleveland in the wintertime, its breathtaking but also cold enough to make your teeth chatter no matter how many jackets you put on.  Have you taken a look at Lake Erie when the winds cause the waves to literally freeze in place?  Winter in Cleveland Ohio is no joking matter, it bites through walls and zips into available open spaces inside homes.  What can protect your home against Cleveland winters?

Cleveland winters fight against residents every year – Knock winter weather out

The answer is high quality insulation and weatherization installed by some of the best in the business, Cleveland Home Insulation.  We offer Eco-friendly Cellulose loose fill insulation or Fiberglass insulation for use in walls and attics, and Spray Foam insulation for pipe entrances, rim joists, and crawlspaces.  Years of accumulated knowledge (as well as years of troubleshooting insulation mishaps) have taught us to use only the right insulation in the right spaces, its a highly important detail!  Insulation protects large spaces from the intrusion of hot or cold temperatures and is used in walls, attics, basements, and crawlspaces to ensure that your home's living spaces are protected on all sides.

Weatherizing (AKA Winterization, Weatherization) comes in to seal smaller spots, like around a window frame or door jam, two of the biggest areas where air can leak indoors.  Weatherization can be done with a variety of techniques.  We use: weather stripping around doors and windows, spray foam around pipes exiting the home, and even specialized sealants for air intrusions in attics before insulation is installed.

The amount of air sealing required is based off of a Blower Door Test (See how you can qualify for a free energy inspection provided by Dominion Energy Ohio).  The blower door test will pressurize or depressurize your home, with a calibrated fan and software combination, that lets the technician know how much extra air is able to enter your home via air gaps, lower is better but there is a limit, because you do want new air to flow into the home many times over each day.

Insulation - Summer Heat Defense

Its not just winter weather that insulation and weatherization can repel, its also summer time heat! Insulation is a stabilizer, it seeks to maintain a balance at all times by trapping moving air. Its all about creating a thoroughly sealed 'Thermal Envelope'. Which means that the home is sealed on 6 sides, each of the walls, as well as the attic and basement. This keeps outside air out, and only lets in warm or cool treated air from your HVAC.

One more hidden benefit

There is one more benefit that insulation provides, its hidden, but it happens over and over, The Savings!  Imagine spending less money on heating/cooling bills every month!  That money can be put towards other things like groceries, school supplies, and other home efficiency upgrades!

Identifying at risk homes – Older homes and Insulation

Due to building codes in the past, homes created before 1971 are the most prone to fall into the category of 'Under-Insulated'.  Insulation was not required in home construction until after 1971, and gaps were found more commonly in the construction of these homes.  If your home has not been renovated or updated, its time to call Cleveland Home Insulation for a free inspection and quote - because you're paying for lost energy!

What is an R-value? - Proper protection for Cleveland's climate

You may have seen a package of insulation, like at a hardware store, that has something called an R-value listed on it.  Each package of insulation has its own R-value written on it, the R-value is the amount of thermal resistance that insulation can provide.  The thickness, layering, and dense packing of the insulation will increase the R-value per square inch.

The higher the R-value, the better that insulation is at resisting temperature change, but you don't always need the most that you can pack into a wall.

**At some point you will not gain any benefit to insulating at a higher R-value than needed, it is called "diminishing returns", plus it costs more money to over-insulate!**

The United States has been categorized into 7 zones.  Zone 1 needs the least total R-value while zone 7 requires the most Ohio is mostly in zone 5, with the southern counties residing in zone 4.  Since we operate in Cleveland Ohio, we focus on the R-value requirements of zone 5.

These zones are further separated by areas of the home; the ceiling insulation, wall insulation, and flooring insulation have minimum targets to hit for the proper amount of insulation.  The ceilings will require the highest R-value, simply because heat rises and will try to escape via your ceilings.  In Ohio, for zones 4 and 5, the ceiling requires an R-value of 38.  This means rafter joints are deeply covered in insulation, Fourteen to sixteen inches is our standard target when insulating a ceiling (or the attic floor in most cases).

Damaged insulation?  Not a problem when you call Cleveland Home Insulation!

This attic insulation is growing mold colonies, a sign that water is entering into the eaves of this attic.  This insulation is also not evenly spread, meaning its not providing the protection that you need, and is probably causing health issues due to mold growth.  Call today for a free inspection and quote!
