Basement Insulation

Great home insulation for Greater Cleveland, Ohio

High-performance Basement insulation fights against Ohio Cold and Lake Erie Winds

Is your basement insulation ready to take on this year?

On our homepage we mentioned just how cold it gets in Cleveland, Ohio.  We have lake effect snow and winds that will freeze Lake Erie waves in place!  Every year in Cleveland is a battle against snow, wind, and occasionally we even have to deal with hail storms!

Having your basement insulated is an excellent way to remove drafts from the home, and keep floors warmer in winter.  Sealing basement air gaps will help prevent the winter time 'Stack Effect', where rising hot air pulls colder outside air in from air gaps in the basement.

There are many options for basement insulation, whatever the finished or unfinished state, we have an insulation solution for you!  We use a combination of: Spray Foam, Block Foam Masonry Foam, Cellulose, and Fiberglass insulation, because each type has its own use cases.

Cleveland Home Insulation offers free insulation inspections and provides free quotes.  We have a ten year warranty on all insulation services, ensuring that our customers are worry free and comfortable for the next decade!  Call us today at (216) 264-0848

Ready to lower your energy bills?

Why basement insulation is so important - It effects your whole home

The 'Stack effect' aka 'Chimney effect' is when air escaping from your attic pulls in more cold air through cracks and crevices in the basement.  It has everything to do with heat rising, this rising creates a vacuum that pulls in more air from below, air with a lower density.  This is one of the main reasons to have your basement insulated, the other reasons are to avoid drafts and cold feet in the winter, and stuffy hot air in the summer, as well as to save money every month on rising energy costs.

How does basement insulation stop the Stack Effect?  By sealing air gaps and stopping the movement of outside air entering the home.  During a home insulation inspection, we will use Thermal Cameras to show you just where outside air is entering your home, so that both our customers and technicians know just where the most vulnerable spots are located!  This information is highly valuable, we can tell if our customers have current insulation that needs a top off, or if they need new insulation because something has happened to their old insulation solution.

What types of insulation can be used for my basement?

There are a couple different categories of basements, Finished and Unfinished basements are the first that often come to mind, but there is a third, partially finished category.  Depending on your current basement set up, different insulation options become available.  The majority of basements in Cleveland, OH, even across America, are unfinished basements.

Unfinished basements have a couple of options for insulation:

  • We insulate the rim joists (the portion of the basement that is at and above ground level, with spray foam insulation.  Spray foam has amazing air sealing abilities and an R-value of 5 per square inch.  It is perfect for stopping cold from entering and for sealing air gaps from pipes entering the home.
  • We use Core Foam Masonry Foam to put insulation into the cinder blocks that make up your walls, insulating them from the inside.  Small holes will be drilled every 16 inches and foam will be inserted into the hollow spaces in the cinder block wall.  The Core Foam has an R-value of 5 per square inch, and fully seals all cracks and gaps, preventing the flow of air into or through the wall.  The holes will be plugged after the foam is inserted.

Finished basement insulation:

For finished basements, its best if we are able to work with your contractors, because this gives our customers the most options for their insulation.

  • We use fiberglass batts inside of walls, before drywall is applied. This is the most common type of insulation used in America, and for good reason, it comes in many thickness' offering different R-values, its highly affordable, and it lasts a long time if it doesn't get any moisture on it.
  • We use blown insulation, either fiberglass or cellulose, and fill existing walls. This is the second method and is less commonly found in finished basements, but many customers have an Eco-friendly and Green mindset and, in deciding to help the planet, choose to use Cellulose insulation. This insulation is a loose-fill only and so must be done after drywall is applied to the wall. We pump insulation into walls, densely packing it in for the highest R-value.

 Partially finished basement insulation:

  • We use a combination of all of the methods to insulate areas that do not have enough or any insulation
