The top places to insulate are your Attic, Basement, Walls, and Crawlspace

Attic

Insulating your attic (also called ceiling insulation), and having the correct amount of insulation in your attic, will save an estimated 25-35% of the energy that you generate, meaning up to a third of your heating and cooling costs won't be required anymore because you're saving the energy that you've paid for!  Can you see why we're excited?

The attic is one of the top spots where energy is lost in the home, and its due to heat rising.  We insulate attics with loose fill cellulose or fiberglass, and the attic eaves with densely packed cellulose insulation, to provide the best insulation and thermal envelope, keeping our customers warm and happy.

Basement

There are a variety of ways to insulate a basement, we can use Block Foam to insulate an unfinished basement by inserting Core Foam Masonry Foam into the cinder blocks that compose the outer walls.  The hollow inside of cinder blocks is perfect for Core Foam insulation, which provides an R-value of 5 per square inch.  We drill holes spaced evenly apart and then insert the foam via small ducts, providing thermal protection from the inside out!

A finished basement, can use fiberglass batts placed underneath the drywall as its being built, but if the walls are already in place, we use loose fill insulation, either Cellulose or Fiberglass, to insert insulation directly under the drywall.  It is densely packed to allow an R-value of 4 per square inch.

Crawlspace

Crawlspaces are the hollow areas underneath a home that offset the home from the ground, this provides a bit of an air barrier between the cold earth and the home above it, but its often not enough to keep feet warm and does nothing to keep drafts out.  We insulate crawlspaces with Spray Foam insulation, it gives an R-value of 5 per square inch and has excellent air sealing abilities.  We target the walls of the crawlspaces, rather than the top, this saves on square footage of material needed and does a better job at protecting the home, the pipes below it, and the people inside of it.  Typically if a home has a basement, it will not have a crawlspace, and vice-versa, but some rarely do contain both a crawlspace and a basement.

Walls

The walls are the last place to insulate, they cover more square footage than the other target location, making them a very important place for insulation.  We use loose fill cellulose or fiberglass insulation, depending on the needs and wants of our customers.  Cellulose insulation is a more energy efficient and green insulation, made from recycled materials.  Fiberglass is a viable alternative, made from super-heated glass, although not considered energy efficient or green, but it is generally more affordable, and widely used for this reason.
